Ombrophobia: Fear of being rained on
Posted on 04.23.07 by joy @ 10.59pm

Today, Zubin got in the tub and his grandfather tried to squirt him with the handshower, to help sort get things going.  Zubin got so upset that he started crying and screaming for me and got so riled up that he started bawling and would not sit down in the tub until I came in.
“..I want to see Daddy! No like the showa!”

Now whenever we suggest a relaxing shower, Zubin gets all square-faced and teary.  Man, the kid is really afraid of the shower.

Renovation Nation

So we are in the process of renovating our apartment. Apparently this is the right thing to do as nearly every fixture in the place is a 1982 classic. Amazingly the design cycle is such that what is now in style in the world of plumbing fixtures and the like is no so dis-similar to what we have installed. The functional benefit of newer stuff will be nice though.

We are currently in week 3 of the job and things are moving quite quickly. The first week was mainly demolition, followed by a week of skim coating and marble tile laying. This week will be new kitchen cabinets and bathrooms.

After the gut wrenching 4 month decision to take on this project, NYCMom and I are relegated to the task of managing and purchasing. We thought this would be the fun part after all the negotiation and dollar signs in the contract phase. Reality though is that now every light fixture, switch plate and drawer knob is up for discussion. And there are alot of these things in your house.
If that’s not enough, now I, NYCDad, a card carrying member of the gadget-freaks, must purchase appliances and plumbing. If you thought picking the right double stroller was tough, man picking the right 8 inch widespread lavatory faucet is going to kill you. It proof positive that homebuilding is a gazillion dollar industry that 300 choices for said faucet type shows up on Amazon.com.

Photos of the demolition shortly.

Holy crap, I have not posted in a while.  Couple of interesting things going on:

  1. Gear: Double strollers, yes we got one.
  2. The Second Child: The case of 1+1= All your time and energy
  3. Renovation: Remodeling the apartment for 2 kids and more usable space.

I’ll be posting on each one of these items separately, stay tuned.
