Well, the 850 square feet that we have here is feeling a little short these days. It fairly capacious by Manhattan standards and worth a pretty penny at the widely accepted $1000 per square foot. But the “junior 4″, which should actually be called junior 2 bedroom, limitations are becoming apparant. The dining room/nursery/office/junior bedroom has no natural light. If it did, this would be a “real” 2 BR and would command mucho premium. This lack of light makes it useless during the day. So I sit here watching the World Cup on DVR at my dining table with my feet propped up on Zubin’s ride-on rocket toy. His stuff is everywhere. We need control, we need square footage. We are considering our options.

Run! The molars are coming, the molars are coming!! Zubin has been in dealing with two incoming molars in the last two weeks. These things are huge. The drooling has reached oceanic volume, I think kit changes are happening every 10 minutes. Also, the teething toys that we have are woefully in adequate in reaching the back teeth. So the Z-unit is improvising with his fingers, corners of books and various toys. Also, he is not sleeping through the night anymore. The pain must be spectacular if it is waking him up (he is a pretty heavy sleeper). Someone once told me that if adults went through teething we would tear our jaws out from the pain. I believe it. So apparently our little tyke has reached the age of academic entry: 1.4 years. That’s according to the application for “preschool practice” program that we are considering. Let’s just lay out the time line here: Pre-school practice, pre-school, nursery school?, kindergarten. I’m not sure about all of this, but it seems like someone is taking advantage of overzealous, over-monied working parents. Pre-school practice focuses on: separation anxiety management, group play and communication. Corrrect me if I am off here but aren’t these things indicators of a child being too young to be in a school environment. If we just waited until they could perhaps understand and speak a bit better wouldn’t things have been “managed” already? Without the $12,000 dollar bill? (Yes you read that right).
